The architect of this impressive façade was Joan Rubió i Bellver, who also designed the Banco de Sóller and was a disciple of Antoni Gaudí. Sóller also has some fascinating museums, like the Natural Science Museum and the Can Prunera, and art gallery with a permanent collection of works by not only Picasso and Miró but also by Magritte, Matisse, Basquiat and other artists. The town’s botanical gardens are renowned too.
-The Festival of Moors and Christians takes place during the second weekend of May so if you’re planning on renting a holiday apartment in Port de Sóller during this time it is best to book early. One of the biggest festivals in majorca, it commemorates a 16th-century Moorish invasion of the area and in Port de Sóller itself, the sea battle is noisily re-enacted with plenty of explosions, gunshots and a good dose of fun. The festival lasts for three days.
Like the rest of majorca Sóller has a sunny, warm and dry Mediterranean climate. In summer, temperatures reach the upper twenties to lower thirties but there is often a cooling breeze. Winter sees rain and colder weather with the mercury dropping to about 4 or 5 °C. Due to the mountainous terrain around town, you may also experience some windy days. Soller is always beautiful anyway.
